Finding Faulkner: The Progeny | Mary Emaline Sloat {Gen 4}



It started, as good quests always do, with a family tale.

Mary Emaline Sloat (Mary Jane, James, Samuel, William) was born in Washtenaw County, Michigan, May 5th 1843, to parents Mary Jane Faulkner and Josiah R Sloat, Sr.

Mary married Abel N Howe (1841-1922) on February 22nd 1866 in Jackson Co, Michigan.


The couple had four children:

  • Lloyd E Howe b. 1 Aug 1869 d. 4 May 1877
  • Nina D Howe b. 3 May 1878 d. 17 May 1878
  • Frederick Nicholas Howe b. 3 Jan 1881 d. 5 Sep 1950 m. Erma B Acker
  • Arthur Ben Howe b. 17 Jul 1883 d. 1954 m. Clara May Fowler

Abel Howe was a farmer in Jackson County, Michigan. Mary was a farmer's wife.

The couple lost their first child, Lloyd, at the age of seven. Lloyd died of "brain fever". Their second child, Nina, died just 14 days after birth of "congestion of the bowels".

Their last two sons grew up to be fine men, married and lived long fruitful lives.

Abel N Howe died April 7th 1922 at the age of 80. He is buried in Horton Cemetery in Horton, Jackson Co, Michigan.

Mary E Sloat Howe died September 5th 1923 at the age of 80. Mary is buried with her husband and young children in Horton Cemetery, Jackson Co, Michigan.
