Finding Faulkner: The Progeny | Martha Sloat {Gen 4}


It started, as good quests always do, with a family tale.

Martha Sloat (Mary Jane, James, Samuel, William) was born in Washtenaw County, Michigan, February 10th 1847, to parents Mary Jane Faulkner and Josiah R Sloat, Sr.

Martha married Charles L Becker (1851-1918) in Sharon, Washtenaw Co, Michigan on April 6th 1876.

The couple had four children: (two sets of twins)

  • Maud DeEtta Becker b. 24 Jul 1877 d. 1964 m. Miles H Bowman
  • Claud G Becker b. 24 Jul 1877 d. 3 Mar 1911 m. Urusula Randal no issue
  • Lois L Becker b. 4 Mar 1885 d. Dec 1967 m. Elwin G Parmeter
  • Lloyd D Becker b. 4 Mar 1885 d. 4 Sep 1941 m. Hope M Goss

Charles Becker was a farmer in Courtland, Kent Co, Michigan. Martha was a farmer's wife.

In 1911 the couple buried their son Claud, a druggist and "travelling man", who died of accidental poisoning.

Charles died February 5th 1918 of stomach cancer. He was 66 years old. Charles Becker is buried in Courtland Twp Cemetery in Rockford, Kent Co, Michigan.

Martha Sloat Becker lived with her daughter Maud after the death of Charles. She remained in the Bowman household until her death, January 19th 1935. Martha was 87 years old. She is buried in  Courtland Twp Cemetery in Rockford, Kent Co, Michigan, alongside her husband.
