Finding Faulkner: The Progeny | George W Faulkner {Gen 4}


It started, as good quests always do, with a family tale.


George W Faulkner (Harrison H, Robert, Samuel, William) was born in Cass Co, Michigan September 1st 1869, to parents Harrison Horton Faulkner and Alvina Akerly.

George married (1) Vinnie Reist (1876-1944) in Eden, Mason Co, MI February 1st 1893. He married (2) UNK (?-1918) about 1912 whereabouts unknown. He married (3) Bertha Merritt (1889-?) in Grand Rapids, MI September 21st 1920. He married (4) Anna Boom (1869-1933) in Grand Rapids, Kent Co, MI on April 27th 1922. He married (5) Dena H Speer (1883-1961) in Elkhart Co, IN January 25th 1934.

George and Vinnie had six children: all born Mason Co, MI

  • Florence Edith Faulkner b. 12 Nov 1893 d. 21 Jul 1916
  • Gladys Faulkner b. 1 May 1897 d. 1 Nov 1947 m. (1) Howard C Bright (2) Norman L Dewar
  • Pearl Ruth Faulkner b. Apr 1900 d. 1966 m. Glen H Tossey
  • Clifford Raymond Faulkner b. 27 May 1905 d. 20 Nov 1951 m. Agnes C Denhof
  • Willard R Faulkner b. 7 Feb 1910 d. 30 May 1976 m. Gertrude Veltmann
  • George Lyle Faulkner b. 1 Oct 1912 d. 6 Nov 1975 never married *

George had several professions in his lifetime. He was a railroad conductor during the time his children were young. Later he was a farmer and eventually became a salesman in the real estate industry.

George had trouble staying married. He claimed to have divorced Vinnie, wife #1, in 1911 which brings up the question of paternity with son George Lyle. He married briefly wife #2, who is as yet nameless and supposedly died in 1918 (according to George). George married for a third time Bertha Merritt a woman 20 years his junior. George and Bertha divorced four months later in January of 1921. George married a fourth time widow Anna (Boom) Tazlaar. They stayed married until Anna's death in 1933. George tried again, marrying for the fifth time widow Dena H (Speer) Stem. They remained married until George's death.

Vinnie herself was remarried twice. First in 1924 to David Sturtevant who deserted her shortly after the marriage. Vinnie filed for divorce in May 1926 and married again in June 1926 to Frank E Harkness. They remained married until Vinnie's death.

George W Faulkner died May 15th 1940 and is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Marion, Osceola Co, MI with his daughter Florence.

Vinnie Reist Faulkner Sturtevant Harkness died Jan 25 1944 and is buried in the Oakwood Cemetery in Muskegon, Muskegon Co, MI alongside her husband Frank Harkness.

Finding Faulkner: The Progeny | Lucinda L Faulkner {Gen 4}



It started, as good quests always do, with a family tale.


Lucinda Louise Faulkner (Harrison H, Robert, Samuel, William) was born in Cass Co, Michigan July 1st 1861, to parents Harrison Horton Faulkner and Mary Adams.

Lucinda married Henry Young (1852-1938) March 8th 1879 in Newberg, Cass Co, Michigan.

The couple had eight children: all born Mason Co, Michigan except Riley, born Cass Co, MI

  • Riley Earl Young b. 10 Oct 1883 d. 9 Nov 1951 m. Mary C Myers
  • Fannie Mae Young b. 15 Nov 1885 d. 24 Feb 1974 m. Charles E Hollingsworth
  • Ever Louis Young b. 5 Jul 1886 d. 11 Dec 1958 m. Ethel J Payne
  • Bertha Ann Young b. 18 Feb 1893 d. Aug 1957 m. Carl W Jones
  • Irma Viola Young b. 5 Jul 1895 d. 4 Nov 1952 m. (1) Carl Miller (2) Clarence Reiling
  • Della A Young b. 4 Jul 1897 d. 6 Jun 1994 m. Christian Arentzen no issue

Lucinda was the second child of Harrison Faulkner and Mary Adams, Harrison's second wife.

Lucinda and Henry lived in Cass Co, Michigan until late fall 1883, when Henry bought farm land in Mason Co, MI. The farm contained a small log cabin. Henry moved the family's household contents by wagon to their new home while Lucinda and infant son Riley took the train to Pentwater, MI, then  crossed the lake by ferry where Henry met them and took them to their new home.

Lucinda was a mid-wife and also was called upon to dress the dead for funerals.

Lucinda Faulkner Young died May 11th 1919 of organic heart disease. She was 57 years old.

Henry Young lived almost 20 years longer, following his wife to the grave on May 4th 1938. Henry died of cerebral hemorrhage and pneumonia. Henry was 85 years old. 

The couple and several of their children are buried in the family plot in Brookside Cemetery in Scottville, Mason Co, MI.

Finding Faulkner: The Progeny | Charles Edwin Faulkner {Gen 4}



It started, as good quests always do, with a family tale.


Charles Edwin Faulkner (Harrison H, Robert, Samuel, William) was born in Wayne Co, New York October 27th 1851, to parents Harrison Horton Faulkner and Susannah Prentiss.

Charles married Mary Poe (1845-1922) in Cass Co, Michigan in 1883.

The couple had one child:

  • Grace A E Faulkner b. 27 Feb 1884 d. 15 Apr 1913 m. Frank Fosdick no issue


Charles Edwin Faulkner was a farmer in Newburg, Cass Co, Michigan, on land originally deeded to his wife Mary from her grandfather. The area was known as Poe's Corner's. 

Charles Edwin Faulkner died August 29th 1910 in Cass Co, Michigan of carcinoma of the face. He was 58 years old. 

Mary Poe Faulkner outlived her husband and her daughter, she died May 15th 1922 in Cass Co, Michigan at the age of 76.

Both Charles and Mary are buried in the Poe Cemetery in Newburg, Cass Co, Michigan.

Finding Faulkner: The Progeny | Mary Jane Faulkner {Gen 4}


It started, as good quests always do, with a family tale.


Mary Jane Faulkner (Harrison H, Robert, Samuel, William) was born in Wayne Co, New York on March 30th 1847, to parents Harrison Horton Faulkner and Susannah Prentiss.

Mary Jane married John H Masser (1844-1924) October 30th 1867 in St Joseph, Michigan.

The couple had at least two children:

  • Harry Alvin Masser b. 28 May 1873 d. 1941 m. Artemissa Bates
  • Olive Estelle Masser b. 25 Jan 1874 d. 31 May 1924 m. Christian C Peterson

John Masser was a farmer in St Joseph, Michigan, as was his father and brothers. Mary Jane had moved with her family to Michigan shortly after the death of her mother, she was seven years old.

Mary Jane Faulkner Masser died November 30th 1904 of mitral insufficiency. She was 57 years old. Mary Jane is buried in the Mount Ulysses Cemetery in Crystal Valley, Oceana Co, MI.

John H Masser lived another 20 years, remaining a widow until his death April 16th 1924. He is buried in the Mount Ulysses Cemetery with his wife.

Finding Faulkner: The Progeny | Lydia A Faulkner {Gen 4}



It started, as good quests always do, with a family tale.


Lydia A Faulkner (Harrison H, Robert, Samuel, William) was born in Monroe Co, New York October 30th 1844, to parents Harrison Horton Faulkner and Susannah Prentiss.

Lydia married Fernando Kinney (1843-1930) June 14th 1862 in Cass Co, Michigan.

The couple had five children: all born Cass Co, MI

  • Myrtie A "Nettie" Kinney b. Sep 1869 d. 1940 m. DeWitt C Gay
  • Anna Kinney b. 26 Jun 1864 d. bef 1880
  • Dollie E Kinney b. 17 Nov 1875 d. 25 Apr 1942 m. Arthur M Gay
  • Ola A Kinney b. 20 Oct 1881 d. 11 Aug 1901 m. George H Brown no issue
  • UFN Kinney b. UNK d. bef 1900

Lydia was the daughter of a physician, she married a farmer and lived the life of a farm wife. 

Lydia A Faulkner Kinney died August 11th 1901 of heart disease ans cirrhosis of the liver. She was 56 years old. Lydia is buried in the Mount Ulysses Cemetery in Crystal Valley, Oceana Co, Michigan.

Fernando Kinney married a second time the twice widowed Linn (Richards) Noble Carroll. 

Fernando Kinney died October 28th 1930 at the age of 87. He is buried in the Mount Ulysses Cemetery with his first wife and mother of his children, Lydia.
