Finding Faulkner: The Progeny | Roswell D Hagerman {Gen 4}


It started, as good quests always do, with a family tale.


Roswell D Hagerman (Eliza Marie, Robert, Samuel, William) was born in Monroe Twp., Kosciusko Co, Indiana, June 1st 1854, to parents Eliza Marie Faulkner and Jacob Hagerman.

Roswell married Carrie A Hamilton on March 25th 1879 in Parsons, Labette Co, Kansas.

The couple had five children:

  • Edward Hagerman b. 10 Jun 1880 d. 5 Jul 1880
  • Arthur F Hagerman b. 19 Jul 1881 d. 17 Nov 1963 m. Emily Landauer
  • Clara Ellen Hagerman b. 31 Dec 1883 d. 18 Feb 1970 never married
  • Theodore C Hagerman b. 29 Jan 1886 d. 18 Jan 1966 m. Bernice M Richel
  • Susan S Hagerman b. 17 Nov 1893 d. 21 Apr 1963 m. James H Foster

Roswell was a dairy farmer in Mount Pleasant, Kansas. He sold butter, grew corn and wheat, and had a peach orchard. In 1888 he was appointed to Postmaster in Hudson, located in the Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory  on the border of what is now Kansas and Oklahoma. Roswell held that position until 1896, when his wife died.

Carrie Hamilton Hagerman died just 2 years after the birth of her youngest daughter, on January 22nd 1896 in Centralia, Oklahoma. Carrie was 34 years old. She is buried in Ellis Cemetery in Labette Co, Kansas.

Roswell Hagerman remained in Oklahoma and raised his children while farming on rented land.

Roswell D Hagerman died on December 4th 1915 at the age of 61. He is buried in Ellis Cemetery in Labette Co, Kansas alongside his wife.
