Finding Faulkner: The Progeny | R N Faulkner {Gen 4}

It started, as good quests always do, with a family tale.

Rodolphus Nelson Faulkner "RN" (George W, Robert, Samuel, William) was born in
Bariboo, Wisconsin May 14th 1847, to parents George Washington Faulkner and Harriet Phoebe Smith.

RN married Addie Whitcomb (1853-1933) on December 25th 1872 in Pentwater, Oceana Co, Michigan.

The couple had three children:

  • FNU Faulkner b. abt 1873 d. bef 1900
  • Mertie Faulkner b. 10 Apr 1875 d. 22 Oct 1875
  • Raymond W Faulkner  b. 28 May 1877 d. 17 Apr 1961 m. Sadie R O'Neill

Rodolphus, know as "RN" studied business management in Chicago at Bryant and Stratton's Business College. After graduation he returned to his family home in Pentwater, Michigan; his family recently relocating there from Indiana. RN secured a job as a bookkeeper in a local store.

After marriage RN got into the food services/restaurant business, traveling to Los Angeles, CA in the early 1880's to operate a "coffee saloon". He returned to the Midwest in the 1890's running businesses in Chicago. By 1900 he was back in Michigan and employed as a merchants buyer. He seemed to move around a bit, in 1910 he was back living in Chicago and a restaurant caterer, then in 1920 in Michigan again and apparently retired. RN tried living in Los Angeles once again where he registered to vote in 1924.

Rodolphus Nelson Faulkner died in Charlevoix, Michigan on May 20th 1933. He was 86 years old. He is buried in the Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix, MI.

Addie Whitcomb Faulkner died six months later, October 31st 1933, at the age of 80. She is buried in Brookside Cemetery alongside her husband.
