It started, as good quests always do, with a family tale.
Emsley L Faulkner (George W, Robert, Samuel, William) was born in Indiana March 4th 1853, to parents George Washington Faulkner and Harriet Phoebe Smith.
Emsley married Christina E Nehm (1863-1913) March 25th 1880 in Pentwater, Oceana Co, Michigan.
The couple had two children:
- Victor Faulkner b. 19 Dec 1880/81 d. 1 Sep 1966 m. Mattie Smith no issue
- Lillian Faulkner b. 15 Feb 1884 d. 1 Sep 1960 m. Fred E Stebbins
Emsley was a farmer in Oceana Co, Michigan. He owned his own farm and appeared quite successful based on the 124 page Probate packet containing the documents necessary to settle his estate.
Emsley L Faulkner died suddenly on August 18th 1890 when a scaffold of grain fell on him, crushing him to death. He left behind his young wife and two small children. He was 37 years old. He is buried in the Pentwater Township Cemetery in Oceana Co, Michigan.
After the death of her husband Christina supported herself and her children first as a dressmaker and then as a laborer in a canning factory.
Christina E Nehm Faulkner died of consumption on March 27th 1913. Her death certificate states that she had been ill for at least two years but did not seek treatment, not believing in it. She was 49 years old. Christina is buried with her husband in the Pentwater Township Cemetery in Oceana Co, Michigan.
