Finding Faulkner: The Progeny | James William Faulkner {Gen 4}



It started, as good quests always do, with a family tale.


James William Faulkner (Samuel, Robert, Samuel, William) was born in Wayne Co, New York December 18th 1853, to parents Samuel Faulkner and Elizabeth Ann Lyons.

James married Hannah Louisa Smith (1857-1963) November 1st 1877 in Decatur Co, Indiana.

James and Hannah had at least 5 children: all born Decatur Co, Indiana

  • Flora Faulkner b. 30 Jun 1880 d. 8 Jan 1958 m. Clyde S Purvis
  • Roy Faulkner b. 6 Mar 1883 d. Jun 1969 m. Mary Howard
  • Charles E Faulkner b. 28 Jan 1888 d. 6 Mar 1972 m. Ruby F Jackson
  • Clarence Henry Faulkner b. 14 Feb 1894 d. 22 Dec 1967 m. Elizabeth Worrell
  • Harry Faulkner b. 16 May 1897 d. Jun 1968 m. Edna D Smith

James William (known as William) and his family removed to Decatur Co, Indiana from their home in Wayne Co, New York shortly after the deaths of William's brother, father and brother-in-law in several battles of the Civil War. William was about 12 years old at the time. His grandparents had removed to Indiana 15 years earlier.

William was a house builder/carpenter by trade.

James William Faulkner died December 3rd 1930 in Decatur Co, IN and is buried in the South Park Cemetery. William was 76 years old.

Hannah Louisa Smith Faulkner died March 6th 1963 and is buried in the Westport Cemetery in Decatur Co, IN. Hannah was 105 years old.
