Finding Faulkner: The Progeny | Mary E Crawford {Gen 4}

It started, as good quests always do, with a family tale.

Mary E Crawford (James Crawford, Mary, Samuel, William) was born in Orange Co, New York between 1821 and 1825, to parents James H Crawford and Catherine W Bull.

Mary married Cornelius Decker (1821-1862) about 1845 most likely in Orange Co, New York.

The couple had at least three children:

  • William Crawford Decker b. 1848 d. UNK
  • James H Decker b. UNK d. Mar 1847
  • Laura Augusta Decker b. UNK d. Jun 1851

This is one confusing family group! There were at least two Cornelius Deckers of the same age living in the same town at the same time, both with sons named William. One married Mary E, one married Jane E. At any rate, Cornelius Decker, son of Cornelius Decker, married Mary E Crawford, daughter of James and Catherine Bull Crawford. Two of the children, James and Laura, died in infancy and never appeared on a census.

Mary E Crawford Decker died December 28th 1851, several months after the death of her infant daughter. She was 27 years old. Mary was first buried in the Decker family plot on the Decker family farm, later she was moved to the Riverside Cemetery in Montgomery, Orange Co, New York.

Cornelius Decker married second, Mary Bull, and had two more children with her before his death on December 9th 1862. Cornelius was 41 years old. He was first buried in the Decker family plot, then moved to Riverside Cemetery.

There seems to be quite a bit of conflicting information out there regarding this family. Anyone with further information is encouraged to contact me.
