Finding Faulkner: The Progeny | Franklin Houston {Gen 3}

It started, as good quests always do, with a family tale.

Franklin Houston (Sarah, James, William) was born in 1809 in Middletown, Orange Co, New York to parents Sarah Faulkner and Thomas Houston.

Franklin married Caroline L'Hommedieu January 13th 1842 in Middletown, Orange Co, New York. Caroline was the daughter of Braddock L'Hommedieu and his wife Lois Vail.

The couple had at least two children:

• Carrie L'Hommedieu Houston b. Aug 1843 d. aft 1925 m. J Spencer McWilliams
• Braddock L H Houston b. Jul 1851 d. 17 Jun 1929 m. Jennie L Ryerson no issue

Franklin and Caroline spent their entire married life in Wallkill, Orange Co, New York. Franklin died in 1881, Caroline died in 1882. They are both buried in the Wallkill Cemetery in Phillipsburg, Orange Co, New York.

Finding Faulkner: The Progeny | Harriet Houston {Gen 3}

It started, as good quests always do, with a family tale.

Harriet Houston (Sarah, James, William) was born August 25th 1794 in Middletown, then Ulster Co, New York. She was the second child, and second daughter, born to Sarah Faulkner and her husband Thomas Houston. 

Harriet married John B Booth December 30th 1817 in Goshen, Orange Co, New York. John was a Presbyterian minister. 

The couple had the following children: (all born Goshen, Orange Co, New York)

• Mary Ann Booth b. 30 Apr 1825 d. 10 Mar 1895 Iowa
• Harriet Houston Booth b. 4 Aug 1827 d. 12 Sep 1902 Iowa
• Susan Agnes Booth b. 1829 d. 10 Jun 1880 m. Lawrence Millar M.D.
• Infant Booth b. abt 1832 d. 17 Jun 1833 New York
• Catherine Booth b. 2 Aug 1834 d. UNK Iowa m. John P Conkey

Harriet and John removed from their long time home in Goshen, Orange Co, New York in the decade between 1850 and 1860 and relocated to Bellevue, Jackson Co, Iowa. They were both in their late 50's or early 60's.

Harriet Houston Booth died April 8th 1868 her husband John Booth died February 18th 1869. They are buried in the First Presbyterian Cemetery in Bellevue, Iowa with their children Elenor, Edwin, Mary Ann, Harriet, and Susan Booth Millar.

Finding Faulkner: The Progeny | Letty Faulkner {Gen 3}

It started, as good quests always do, with a family tale.

Letty Faulkner (William, James, William) was born about 1790 in Ulster Co, New York. She was the second daughter born to William Bull Faulkner and his second wife Agnes "Nancy" McWilliams.

Letty married Benjamin Everett, the son of Ephraim Everett and Beulah More, on January 16th 1806 at the First Presbyterian Church in Goshen, NY.

To them were born at least three children, birth years given 1807, 1809 and 1812. Names are UNK.

Letty Faulkner Everett died in 1855. Her burial location is unknown.

Sarah Faulkner (William, James, William) was born about 1789 in Ulster Co, New York to William Bull Faulkner and his second wife Agnes "Nancy" McWilliams. Sarah was the firstborn of this second marriage.

Sarah married William T Bush Jr about 1821 in New York.


Children born to this union include: (all born in Tompkins Co, New York)

• Nancy J Bush b. 11 Aug 1823 d. 1880 (may have married Jacob Dudley)
• Nelson Bush Sr b. 20 Aug 1826 d. 20 Nov 1909 m. 1st Margaret DeReamer 2nd Harriet Crawford
• Joseph Faulkner Bush b. 9 Jun 1829 d. 2 Dec 1832

Sarah Faulkner Bush died July 22nd 1853 and is buried in the Newfield Village Cemetery in Tompkins Co, New York with her husband and both sons.

Finding Faulkner: The Progeny | Matthew Faulkner {Gen 3}

It started, as good quests always do, with a family tale.

Matthew Faulkner (William, James, William) was born between 1773 and 1778 in Middletown New York to William Bull Faulkner and his first wife, name UNK.

Matthew married Isabelle(a) Robinson sometime before 1816.


Children born to this union include:

• James Faulkner b. abt 1816 d. 27 Nov 1896 m. 1st Harriet Greer 2nd Rebecca Jane Tucker
• Eleanor Faulkner b. abt 1818 d. UNK "went South" *
• William Faulkner b. abt 1820 d. UNK "went South" *
• Asai or Levi Faulkner b. abt 1821 d. UNK "went South" *
• John Faulkner b. abt 1823 d. UNK "went South" *

Matthew Faulkner, it is recorded, died November 19th 1857. His wife Isabelle is recorded as died November 19th 1856. They are both said to be buried in Middletown New York. 

*According to family lore a family feud broke out because one of Matthew's sons (James?) married a Catholic so all but James went south.

According to family tradition, Matthew hired some Indians to do a piece work, agreeing to pay them with all the whisky they could carry in a basket. The Indians soaked and treated the basket making it watertight.

Achsah Faulkner (William, James, William) was born about 1777 in Middletown, then Ulster County, New York, the firstborn child to William Bull Faulkner and his first wife, name UNK.

Achsah married James Boak in 1799 in Orange County New York.

Achsah Faulkner Boak died February 13th 1858. She is buried in the Scotchtown Cemetery in Scotchtown New York with her husband and six of her children.

Finding Faulkner: The Progeny | John Faulkner {Gen 3}

It started, as good quests always do, with a family tale.

John Faulkner (William, James, William) was born Aug 1775 to William Bull Faulkner and his first wife (NU). Very little is known about him. The Bull Book records him as Captain John Faulkner, perhaps he served in the War of 1812? 

John married Catherine McCord, daughter of Samuel McCord about 1798.

Children of this couple include:

• William McCord Faulkner b. 24 Nov 1799 d. UNK
• Samuel McCord Faulkner b. 31 Jan 1802 d. Jun 1856 ~ never married

In researching the children I discovered the possibility of a daughter:

• Priscilla Faulkner b. 1806

Although Samuel M Faulkner never married his probate records name heirs-in-law, next of kin and three adult women to be notified of the court proceedings. I will publish a separate study of both Samuel and Priscilla. This has stumped me for a while!

John Faulkner's death and burial are not know at this time.
