Finding Faulkner: The Progeny | James H Crawford Jr {Gen 4}


It started, as good quests always do, with a family tale.


James H Crawford Jr (James Crawford, Mary, Samuel, William) was born in Orange Co, New York June 20th 1833, to parents James H Crawford and Catherine W Bull.

James married Catherine C Brush (1834-1923) January 4th 1854 in Crawford, Orange Co, New York.

The couple had at least four children:
  • Albert W Crawford b. abt 1855 d. 28 Mar 1930 m. Seville Sherley no issue
  • William H Crawford b. abt 1858 d. abt 1893 m. Sarah A Prescott no issue
  • Nena C Crawford b. 31 Mar 1860 d. 19 May 1944 m. Wm P Hohenschuh no issue
  • Charles L Crawford b. 26 Jul 1862 d. 2 Mar 1943 m. Mamie Smith

James Crawford was an artist and a photographer by profession. He and his wife Catherine resided in Crawford, Orange Co, New York for the first few years of their marriage; eldest son Albert was born there. Sometime between 1855 and 1858 the family removed to Dixon, Lee Co, Illinois. James was listed as an artist on the 1860 US Census. Sometime before 1870 the family relocated to Morris, Grundy Co, Illinois where James was working as a photographer. 

James Crawford died of consumption on May 13th 1880. He was 46 years old. He is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Morris, Illinois.

Catherine Brush Crawford  never remarried, living her later years with her son Charles in Peoria, Illinois. Catherine died August 4th 1923 and is buried with her husband in Morris, Illinois.
